If you are behind
The onboarding fee, and why it exists.
If you join us with overdue filings or records that need reconstructing, there is a one-off onboarding fee from £250 on top of your monthly plan.
We would rather be straightforward about this than bury it. Bringing a year of bank statements into order is genuinely a month of work, and a practice that absorbs it quietly either resents the client or cuts corners somewhere else. Neither helps you.
The fee is quoted before you commit, once we have seen how far behind things actually are. It is frequently less than the penalties still accruing while nothing is filed — and it is a one-off. From the second month you are simply on the plan fee like everyone else.
What sets the price
Why your quote might differ.
The plans above are starting points. Four things move the number, and we will tell you which apply to you before you commit.
Transaction volume
Fifty transactions a month and five thousand are very different jobs. Volume, not turnover, is the main driver of bookkeeping time.
VAT status and scheme
VAT registration adds four filings a year. Partial exemption, the margin scheme or reverse-charge construction work add real complexity on top.
Payroll size
A single director is straightforward. Ten employees with pensions, statutory pay, and starters and leavers each month is a standing monthly commitment.
The state of the records
If everything is already reconciled in Xero, the year-end is quick. If we are starting from a year of bank statements, that is real work and we price it openly rather than absorbing it.
Pricing questions
The fine print, in plain terms.
Why are you not the cheapest?
Because the cheapest online firms meter your access to a qualified accountant — you will find support sold by the hour, in packages, as a paid upgrade. Our model is the opposite: a named ACCA accountant, a capped client list, and questions that never appear on an invoice. That costs more to deliver, and we would rather charge for it honestly than promise it and ration it quietly.
Is there a tie-in?
No. Plans run monthly and you can give 30 days' notice at any time. If you leave, we hand your records and filings to your new accountant promptly and without charge.
How does the annual discount work?
Pay twelve months upfront at the start of your company year and take 10% off the plan fee. It applies to the monthly plan only — statutory filing fees and one-off work are excluded. If you cancel mid-year, we refund the unused months at the standard monthly rate.
What if I need to call about something mid-year?
Call. Support is included in every plan and questions do not get itemised on your next invoice. If something becomes a substantial separate project — a restructure, an HMRC enquiry, a valuation — we will tell you before starting and quote it separately.
Do I pay for a full year up front?
Only if you want the 10% discount. Otherwise you pay monthly by direct debit or standing order, which spreads the cost of your year-end rather than landing it as one bill after the work is done.
What happens if my business grows?
We review the fee once a year, or sooner if something material changes — you register for VAT, take on staff, or transaction volume doubles. Any change is agreed with you in writing before it takes effect.
I am behind on filings. Will you charge extra?
Yes, and we will tell you how much before you commit. There is a one-off onboarding fee from £250 where filings or records are overdue, plus catch-up bookkeeping priced per month of backlog. It is a one-off — after that you are on the standard plan fee.
Are Companies House and HMRC fees included?
Statutory fees such as the confirmation statement filing fee are charged at cost and shown separately. We do not add a margin to them.
