A small practice, deliberately.
SMR Financials exists because the gap between what a finance director gets and what a small business owner gets is far wider than it needs to be.
The practice
Why we set it up this way
In a larger organisation, the numbers arrive monthly, in a format built for decisions, with someone on hand to explain them. Anything unusual gets flagged before it becomes a problem.
A small business owner usually gets something quite different: a set of statutory accounts, months after the year has closed, written in a format designed for Companies House rather than for them. By the time it lands, every decision it describes has already been made.
SMR Financials was set up to close that gap. The compliance work still has to be right — filings on time, figures that stand up to scrutiny, HMRC dealt with properly. But that is the baseline, not the offer. The offer is that you understand your own numbers well enough to make better decisions with them.
That is also why the practice stays small. Client numbers are capped so that the person preparing your accounts is the person who answers when you call. It is a deliberate constraint, and it is the whole model.

That background shapes how the practice works. Sitting in on decisions at that level teaches you two things quickly: that the quality of a decision depends almost entirely on the quality of the numbers underneath it, and that most numbers are presented in a way that obscures rather than clarifies.
Applied to a small business, that means resisting the temptation to hand over a document and call the job done. It means saying which number moved, why it moved, and what it means for the next quarter — in language that does not require an accounting qualification to follow.
SMR Financials Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 12636720, with its registered office at 483 Green Lanes, London N13 4BS.
How we work
Four commitments.
Not a mission statement. Just the things we will not compromise on, written down so you can hold us to them.
The price is agreed before the work
You will never receive an invoice you have not already seen the number for. If the scope changes, we agree a new figure first — not afterwards.
Deadlines are tracked, not remembered
Every filing date is diarised well in advance, and we come to you with what we need rather than waiting for you to think of it. Late filing penalties are an avoidable cost.
Nothing is explained in jargon
If a document leaves this practice and you cannot say what it means, we have not finished the job. Ask twice if you need to — nobody here will make you feel awkward for it.
Bad news arrives early
If your tax bill is going to be larger than you expected, you will hear it as soon as we know, with as much time as possible to plan for it. Surprises in January help nobody.
Regulation
Who we answer to.
Accountancy in the UK is not a protected title — anyone can call themselves an accountant. What matters is the qualification behind the name and the body that supervises the work.
SMR Financials Ltd holds an ACCA practising certificate under membership number 4414077. That brings a code of ethics, mandatory continuing professional development, and a complaints route that does not depend on our goodwill.
If you are comparing firms, ask every one of them the same question: which professional body supervises you, and what is your membership number? A good answer is immediate and specific.
