02  Why SMR

Most people leave their accountant for the same three reasons.

Silence between January and the following January. A bill that arrives with no warning. And answers written in a language only accountants speak. We built the practice around fixing all three.

01

You always know the fee

One monthly figure agreed before we start, covering everything in your plan. Ask a question in March and you will not find it itemised on an invoice in April.

02

You speak to a qualified accountant

Not a call centre and not a different junior each quarter. The person who prepares your accounts is the person who explains them.

03

You get the answer in English

Every set of accounts comes with a short plain-English summary: what you earned, what you owe, when it is due, and the one or two things worth changing.

£12,570 Personal allowance 2026/27
£90,000 VAT registration threshold

03  How it works

Switching takes about a week. Most of it is us.

Changing accountant sounds like a job. In practice you make one introduction and sign one form — professional clearance and the records handover are ours to deal with.

01

A 20-minute call

We ask what you do, how you invoice, what is currently painful and what you are actually trying to build. No pitch deck, no obligation.

02

A fixed written quote

You get a single monthly figure with the scope written out in full, so you can see exactly what is in and what is not. It does not move unless your business does.

03

We handle the handover

We write to your previous accountant for professional clearance, collect your records, register as your agent with HMRC and set up your software. You sign one engagement letter.

04

Then it just runs

Monthly reconciliation, deadlines tracked ahead of time, and a plain-English summary whenever something needs a decision from you.

04  Pricing

Published fees. No hourly billing.

Every plan is a fixed monthly fee covering the work listed, with 10% off if you pay twelve months upfront. If your business changes shape, we agree a new figure before any extra work starts — never after.

06  The practice

Board-level finance experience, at small-business scale.

SMR Financials Ltd was founded by Shimmer Razook, who trained as a Chartered Accountant and has worked alongside senior finance teams on board-level financial decisions.

That background is the reason the practice looks the way it does. Larger organisations expect their numbers monthly, in a format they can act on, with someone available to explain them. Smaller businesses are usually handed a set of accounts nine months after the fact and left to interpret it alone. There is no good reason for the difference.

The practice is deliberately small. Every client deals directly with a qualified accountant, and the number of clients is capped so that stays true.

08  Questions

The things people ask first.

If yours is not here, ask it directly — you will get a straight answer, not a callback request.

How much will it cost?

Plans start at £55 a month plus VAT for a sole trader and £135 a month plus VAT for a limited company, with a 10% discount if you pay twelve months upfront. The figure depends on turnover, transaction volume, VAT status and payroll size. You get a fixed written quote before anything starts — see pricing.

Is switching accountant a hassle?

Not for you. You sign one engagement letter and make one introduction. We write to your existing accountant for professional clearance, collect the records and handle the HMRC agent authorisations. You can switch at any point in your financial year.

Do I have to use particular software?

We work in Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent and will recommend whichever fits how you actually invoice and get paid. If you are already on one of them, we work in yours. Spreadsheets are fine to start with, though Making Tax Digital will eventually require compatible software for most businesses.

Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?

It depends on profit level, whether you need limited liability, who your customers are and what you plan to do with the money you take out. Above roughly £30,000–£40,000 of profit, a limited company often wins on tax — but not always, and the admin is heavier. Run the numbers in our calculators, then talk it through with us.

I am late with a return. Can you help?

Yes, and it is more common than you would think. The first thing to do is stop the clock — penalties and interest accrue daily. Get in touch, tell us honestly how far behind you are, and we will deal with HMRC on your behalf. Nobody here is going to be surprised or judgemental.

Do you only work with London businesses?

No. We are based in Palmers Green, north London, and we act for clients across the UK. Everything from records to signatures works remotely, and we are glad to meet in person if you are local.
